» Voice Over IP - VOIP
Internet Voice, also known as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), is a technology that allows you to make telephone calls using a broadband Internet connection instead of a regular (or analog) phone line. MetCall VoIP Services allow you to call other people using the same service, and to call anyone who has a telephone number - including local, long distance, mobile, and international numbers. Also, while some services only work over your computer or a special VoIP phone, MetCall VOIP allows you to use a traditional phone through an adaptor..
» What is VoIP/Internet Voice?
VoIP allows you to make telephone calls using a computer network, over a data network like the Internet. VoIP converts the voice signal from your telephone into a digital signal that travels over the internet then converts it back at the other end so you can speak to anyone with a regular phone number. When placing a VoIP call using a phone with an adapter, you'll hear a dial tone and dial just as you always have.
VOIP is a term used in IP telephony for a set of facilities for managing the delivery of voice information using the Internet Protocol.
In general, this means sending voice information in digital form in discrete packets rather than in the traditional circuit-committed protocols of the public switched telephone network (PSTN).
A major advantage of VOIP and Internet telephony is that it avoids the tolls charged by ordinary telephone service while providing enhanced services such as call waiting, caller ID, call forward, three ways call and voice mail all for no additional cost. Additionally many VOIP service providers will allow unlimited calls within the USA and Canada for one low flat monthly fee.
VOIP service can include calls to International destination at a cost which is a fraction of the cost usually charged by traditional phone company.
Additionally, the VOIP telephone does not require the local phone company to come to the customer site and install new line. The unit is fully transferable and a customer can be assigned a phone number from over 2500 area codes in the USA regardless of the VOIP telephone physical location.
Hence, a customer in New Jersey can be assign a New York City 212 area code phone number if desire.
If the unit is being transferred to any other destination in the world, the customer can continue using the unit as a regular telephone service with a USA phone number.
Hence, a VOIP phone with the number (212) 555-1212 can be installed in Beijing China and the customer can make unlimited phone calls to any destination in the USA and Canada for a flat monthly fee of about US$1.25/day.
Calls made to this unit (physically installed in China) from any USA telephone will cost the same as making a phone call from any phone to a customer in New York City.
